Jim Cox was a founding Director of Plenary Group; he poured his heart and soul into the establishment of the business. Jim’s passion and energy were legendary and we often felt he could achieve just about anything through sheer weight of personality and determination; with just a touch of bluster thrown in. Jim had a rich career spanning 30 years in property development and construction before the establishment of Plenary Group. He was actively involved in all facets of development; site acquisition, rezoning, planning, financing, construction, leasing, fitout and sale of major projects across Australia, the United States and South-east Asia.
But Jim really came into his own when working in partnership with governments to deliver public infrastructure. His determination to achieve outstanding design in the built form was evident to anyone who worked with him. His influence can be seen particularly in his home town of Melbourne, Australia, where he was a driving force behind the Victorian County Court building, Southern Cross Station and the Melbourne Convention Centre (the latter still under construction). Jim was a mentor to many people who worked with him. His professional legacy will endure amongst a great many people for many years to come. Plenary Group owes a huge debt to Jim Cox.
